Sam Darnold injury update: Seahawks QB logs first full practice ahead of Super Bowl 60

Seattle Seahawks received encouraging news late in the week as preparations for Super Bowl 60 continued, with quarterback Sam Darnold taking a major step forward in his recovery from an oblique injury.

After spending the past three weeks as a limited participant in practice, Darnold logged his first full practice session on Thursday, a significant milestone that all but confirms his availability for Sunday’s championship matchup. While there was little doubt he would suit up, the full practice cleared any lingering questions about his physical readiness.

Sam Darnold’s injury progress boosts Seahawks’ confidence

Darnold has been managing the oblique issue since mid-January, but it hasn’t slowed his on-field production. The veteran quarterback played through the injury in Seattle’s last two playoff games and delivered some of his best football of the season when it mattered most.

In the divisional round, Darnold dismantled the San Francisco 49ers in a dominant 41-6 win. One week later, he followed it up with a poised performance in the NFC Championship Game, completing 25 of 36 passes for 346 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions. He also showed no visible limitations in the Seahawks’ dramatic 31-27 victory over the Los Angeles Rams.

Despite not being fully healed earlier in the week, Darnold never wavered in his confidence. He repeatedly emphasized that he would be ready for the biggest game of the year, stating he would be “good to go” when Sunday arrived.

Thursday’s practice participation backed up that belief. By taking every rep with no restrictions, Darnold demonstrated that the oblique injury is no longer a major concern heading into Super Bowl 60.

Sam Darnold NFL story:

  • Jets traded him
  • Panthers let him walk
  • 49ers had him as a backup
  • Vikings won 14 games & weren’t sold
  • Now he’s one win away from being a Super Bowl champion.

Seattle watches other injury concerns ahead of Super Bowl 60

While Darnold’s status appears secure, the Seahawks are keeping a close eye on other areas of the roster. Rookie safety Nick Emmanwori emerged as a name to monitor after rolling his ankle during Wednesday’s practice. The 21-year-old did not practice on Thursday, raising mild concern about his availability.

Seattle is expected to hold one final practice on Friday, and the expectation is that Darnold will once again participate fully. If that happens, it will further solidify his status as the unquestioned starter against the New England Patriots.

The timing of Darnold’s full return to practice couldn’t be better. With the offense humming and the quarterback playing at a high level, Seattle enters Super Bowl week with momentum and stability at the most important position on the field.

The Seahawks and Patriots are set to clash at Levi’s Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET. As long as there are no late setbacks, Darnold will be under center, leading Seattle with confidence, rhythm, and a clean bill of health when it matters most.
