Sabrina Ionescu makes WNBA and Liberty history in game against Lynx

Minnesota Lynx defeated New York Liberty, who are still without Breanna Stewart due to her knee injury, 71-83 at Barclays Center.

Although the Liberty were looking for revenge after their 100-93 defeat on July 30 in Minnesota, another loss puts the Lynx on a two-game winning streak against Sabrina Ionescu and her team.

However, the 27-year-old guard scored 10 points, 3 rebounds, and 5 assists in 30 minutes of play and made history in the game despite her problems from the field, making only 4 of 15 shots, and the loss.

Ionescu breaks 2 important records

Although Sabrina is known for her shooting, this time it was her three rebounds that made her shine on the court against the Lynx.

It was the first two of those rebounds that allowed her to surpass Kiah Stokes and become the fourth leader in franchise history in rebounds, with 954, according to New York Liberty public relations.

And it doesn’t end there. She achieved that number of rebounds in just 173 games, making her the fastest point guard in WNBA history to achieve this feat.

Ahead of Ionescu and rounding out the franchise’s top three are Vickie Johnson with 1,053, Tari Phillips with 1,077, and Tina Charles with 1,723 rebounds.

Considering that she is averaging 19.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.5 assists this season and is only 46 rebounds away from reaching 1,000 and marking a milestone in her career, it will only be a matter of time before we see Sabrina break this number.

Now, the Liberty are preparing to visit the Los Angeles Sparks on Tuesday, August 12, and the Las Vegas Aces on Wednesday, August 13.

Both teams will face off again on August 16 in Minnesota and August 19 in New York. Needless to say, both will be going for a win: the Liberty to bounce back from the loss on one side and the Lynx to consolidate their undefeated victories on the other.
