The WNBA’s historic season is one game away from its conclusion. Since the most watched draft in league history, in April, it was clear that this would be a season for the history books, then records in ratings views and also the All-Star game with the most votes and clearly the most watched ever. Caitlin Clark has been the driving force behind this growth, but veteran players like A’ja Wilson, Alyssa Thomas, Breanna Stewart, Napheesa Collier and Sabrina Ionescu have also contributed significantly to the league’s expansion. Sadly after Sunday will not have activity until the preseason in April 2025, so let’s enjoy and hopefully game 5 will be as even as the other four because only game 2 had a difference greater than three points on the scoreboard.
Napheesa Collier and Sabrina Ionescu’s Tunnel Encounter
In Game 3, we witnessed a spectacular performance from Sabrina Ionescu, who hit the game-winning three-pointer from the logo. However, in yesterday’s loss, she committed a costly foul with just two seconds left, leading to the Lynx’s game-winning free throws. As usual, the cameras followed Sabrina after the game, capturing a heartwarming moment between the two teams. Napheesa Collier’s young daughter ran to embrace Sabrina and her husband, highlighting the strong bond between the players who won gold together at the Paris Olympics.
The embrace seemed to calm Sabrina, who had one of her worst games in recent weeks, scoring only 10 points. Both she and Breanna Stewart struggled, combining to shoot 10-for-36 from the field and 0-for-9 from three-point range. Stewart still managed a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Collier continued her impressive playoff run, although her scoring was down compared to previous games. She contributed nine rebounds, four assists, and four steals in all 40 minutes, proving to be the heart and soul of the Lynx.
Game 5 Showdown in Brooklyn
This will be the eighth Game 5 in WNBA Finals history and the first since 2019, and just for the record, home teams are 5-2 all-time in Game 5s of the WNBA Finals. If the Liberty lose, they will become the first team since the Atlanta Dream (2010-11) to lose back-to-back Finals, but that’s something the Liberty unfortunately already accomplished when they lost the 1999 and 2000 Finals. Anyway, you can be sure that neither team is going to quit and they are going to give it their all, so enjoy it because after Sunday, there will be a WNBA drought.
