Ryan Garcia’s advice to Canelo Alvarez: “I don’t see why you keep fighting”

Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez is still perhaps the most recognized active figure in Mexican sport today, and it is undeniable that he has become an icon of success in boxing, a profession in which at one time he was considered the best pound-for-pound, not only in his country, but also in the world, which is worthy of recognition at all times.

However, all good things, and bad things, come to an end, cycles are fulfilled, and Canelo’s career will be no exception. The question is whether this moment is now or if he still has some more fights left in him before hanging up his gloves. That decision will be made by him and only him, however, there are more and more voices asking the Mexican fighter not to get back into the ring professionally.

What does Ryan Garcia think of Canelo Alvarez?

The latest voice to join this position is that of the controversial Mexican-American boxer Ryan Garcia, who knows very well the trajectory of the undisputed champion in the 168-pound division, but who is of the idea that there is no reason to continue with his career, as his age has cost him, according to him, in the decline of his level in the ring.

“Why not (retire Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez)? He already made a lot of money. He did everything he could, he was an undisputed champion. What’s the point of fighting? I don’t see it, but hey, if you love the sport and you want to continue, do it,” Ryan Garcia said in an exclusive interview with Covers. “I love Canelo, I’ve trained with him for years, but he fights the same way. It’s always a little slow, back and forth, blocking, trying to throw fly balls. I don’t think he’s as creative as I am when it comes to trying to put someone in a bad position.”

Canelo Alvarez’s latest defeat to Terence Crawford

It should be remembered that on September 13, to the surprise of many fans and some experts, Canelo lost in a unanimous decision after 12 rounds at the Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada to Terence Crawford. Despite much speculation about the rematch, the reality is that the American boxer’s dominance was complete at the home of the Las Vegas Raiders of the National Football League (NFL).

At 35 years of age (July 19, 1990), the Guadalajara, Jalisco-born fighter has 69 fights in his professional career, of which he has won 63 (39 by knockout), three losses and two draws.
