Ryan Garcia risks it all against Mario Barrios: He keeps his criticized trainer

Ryan Garcia beat Oscar de la Hoya to the punch by announcing that the fight against Mario Barrios will be on February 21. The news has given much to talk about, with one of the most talked about topics being related to Garcia’s trainer, his own father, Henry, who is questioned and criticized for not being at the elite level to prepare his son.

Prior to the fight against Romero, Ryan Garcia tried to reunite with his former trainer Eddy Reynoso, who has long been Canelo Alvarez’s head trainer. They split in 2022 because Garcia felt Reynoso did not have enough time for him. A reconciliation was sought, but ultimately did not happen due to scheduling conflicts.

Garcia made the decision to work with renowned trainer Derrick James. Their partnership helped him recover from the loss to Gervonta Davis. James also trained Ryan for the fight against Devin Haney, which he won

The WBC lifted the suspension

Garcia had been barred from all WBC activity after using racial slurs and making offensive comments towards multiple communities during a live social media broadcast.

Mauricio Sulaiman, president of the WBC,

condemned his actions and offered support for the boxer’s mental health.

Recently, the Board of Governors decided to lift the sanction and reinstate him. With this new opportunity from the WBC, Garcia feels grateful.
