The World Boxing Council (WBC) has taken a momentous step by announcing the lifting of the ban on Ryan Garcia, thus opening a new chapter in the career of the media-savvy fighter after a period marked by controversy and personal struggle.

The news comes at a key moment for Garcia, as he has been heavily criticized for his various attitudes and especially for his lifestyle. Now he will be able to prove how he wants to continue with his career and make it clear that he can make the most of this new opportunity.

WBC allows Ryan Garcia to box again

The WBC president, Mauricio Sulaiman, confirmed the decision via the X platform, stating that the Board of Governors voted to readmit Garcia after he documented a “successful process” of change.

“The WBC has been very close to Ryan, his family, management and promoter and we are confident that he will start a new life in and out of the ring. We are confident that he will be an ambassador for the new generation,” said Sulaiman.

“I am officially no longer banned by the WBC. I want to thank the WBC for seeing my efforts to change and making this decision

After Sulaiman’s post, it was Garcia who also reacted on X, showing his total happiness. “Officially no longer banned from the WBC. I want to thank the WBC for seeing my change efforts and making this decision. I’m ready to put that green and gold belt on and (represent) like a true champion.”

Possible opponent for Ryan Garcia’s return

The lifting of the WBC ban is crucial, as Garcia could get a golden opportunity to clean up his image and conquer the world championship he so desperately craves.

Reports indicate that Garcia and WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios are in advanced talks for a title fight in the first quarter of 2026. Sources close to Golden Boy Promotions and PBC, the promoters involved, have confirmed that contracts are being exchanged.

This fight would be Garcia’s first for a world title since his 2023 bout against Gervonta Davis, so it would be a dream comeback for him and a clear opportunity to vindicate himself and prove that he can change and make better decisions.
