Russell Wilson’s bombshell after losing his job to a rookie

For professional athletes in any sport, walking away is never simple. After spending their best years on the field, detaching from the game they love is anything but easy.

It takes tremendous courage to accept that the body no longer responds the same way. Realizing that the legs have lost a step and that every hit lingers longer requires enormous mental strength.

That is the crossroads facing New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson. At 37 years old, he may still believe he has much to offer another franchise, both as a starting leader on offense and as a mentor.

However, front offices and coaching staffs across the league may not share that view. One only needs to examine how his tenure with the Giants unfolded and how the franchise shifted once he was benched, coinciding with the rise of Jaxson Dart.

Russell Wilson wants to continue in the NFL

For Russell Wilson, the word retirement is not part of his vocabulary, at least not yet. After leaving the Seattle Seahawks and enduring difficult stretches with the Denver Broncos, Pittsburgh Steelers, and New York Giants, he hopes to find one final team where he can showcase his talent.

In January 2026, he decided to change agents. He parted ways with Mark Rodgers, who had represented him since he entered the NFL, and signed with Athletes First superagent David Mulugheta.

With this new representation, he makes it clear that he is fully committed to securing another opportunity, one that offers stability and the chance for redemption after three turbulent seasons in which he changed teams year after year.

Yeah, I’m not blinking.”…”I know what I’m capable of. I think I showed that in Dallas, I want to do that again and just be ready to rock and roll and be as healthy as possible and be able to play ball.

Wilson said on January 5.

Russell Wilson’s business venture

For many NFL players with sound financial guidance, entrepreneurship becomes a key component of life beyond football. That appears to be the case for Russell Wilson, who has entered the hospitality industry.

Excited to be launching the @hqhotels together globally.

This was the message he posted on his Instagram story while continuing to search for a new opportunity in the NFL. In the image, he stands alongside SBE Entertainment Group founder and CEO Sam Nazarian, who originally shared the photo before Wilson reposted it.

That was the caption accompanying the publication.

It is worth recalling that in January 2025, the hotel group named Russell and his wife Ciara as strategic partners and advisory board members of the brand. They currently operate one hotel in Antigua and another in São Paulo, with plans to establish 50 properties across 30 countries by 2030.

I am blessed to be partnering with my long-time friends Russell Wilson and Ciara as we continue to bring HQ to life around the world. Both are renowned in their career fields and will bring unique insights through their entrepreneurial prowess and spheres of influence.

Sam Nazarian

Nazarian said regarding the partnership with the Wilsons. And now the time will tell if this was a great business or if they needed to modify something along the way.
