As Wimbledon gets underway, off-court speculation is already making headlines, with rumors circulating about a potential new couple in the tennis world: 22-year-old British star Emma Raducanu and Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz, currently ranked Number 2 in the world, according to the ATP rankings.

The two young stars sparked speculation of a potential romance, fueled by their visible closeness on and off the court. They have been spotted during the practice court, brand campaigns, or other activities, and both tennis players are spending time together. Even the young Emma was in the spotlight when she cheered for Alcaraz in the semi/final of the Queen’s Club tournament, which subsequently was won by Carlos.

The rumor has quickly gained momentum, sparking widespread speculation about the true nature of the relationship between the two rising stars. In response to the growing buzz, Emma Raducanu, currently the top-ranked British female player, addressed the situation publicly, breaking her silence on the matter.

Raducanu and Alcaraz Set to Team Up for US Open Mixed Doubles

The whisper of a new love was spinning for weeks, it was not only the practice together or the presence in an advertisement of Evian, one of the sponsors of the players. One of the key developments fueling the rumors came when the two young stars announced they would play together in the mixed doubles category at the US Open.

They announced their partnership for the last Grand Slam on June 19, when the Spaniard and the British participated in an interview with the US Open media team, where they participated in a video on a dynamic if they knew each other. There, they talked about the decisions they might have taken during the tournament. This further fueled speculation of a budding tennis romance.

The truth behind the rumors surrounding the two young stars

Wimbledon is one of the biggest dreams for any player to achieve. One of the most prestigious tournaments will start the first round next Monday. For this reason, speaking at a pre-tournament press conference, Emma Raducanu discussed her preparations for Wimbledon, outlined her competitive goals, and addressed the speculation surrounding her rumored relationship with Carlos Alcaraz.

“We’re just good friends,” said the British tennis player with great humor and a big smile. She confirmed that she and Carlos are just friends and there isn’t a sentimental relationship between the two young stars. At the end, she added “what a way to wrap up” as this one was one of the first questions during the media day.

For now, both players are focused on Wimbledon. Carlos Alcaraz will look to defend the title he captured in 2024, opening his campaign against experienced Italian veteran Fabio Fognini. Meanwhile, Emma Raducanu will aim to deliver a strong performance as she competes on home soil.
