Roland Garros Winners List: All the Grand Slam men’s singles champions updated until 2025

As the 2025 edition of the French Open climaxes with Carlos Alcaraz vs Jannik Sinner on June 8, the tournament has once again proved it’s worth a symbol of tradition, excellence, and endurance in tennis. But who has won this illustrious Grand Slam championship?

Held annually at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris, the French Open remains the only Grand Slam event played on red clay, a surface that has long challenged the game’s best athletes compared to hard court and grass surfaces.

The tournament, officially a Grand Slam since 1925, was first contested in 1891 and was initially dominated by French players, particularly in the Amateur Era, although success has waned in the Open Era with only Yannick Noah claiming the prize – back in 1983.

The French Open 2025 Winners list: All the Grand Slam men’s singles champions

Rafael Nadal’s legacy at Roland Garros is unrivaled. Between 2005 and 2022, the Spaniard captured the men’s singles title 14 times. He remained undefeated in all 14 finals he contested and ended his French Open career with a staggering match record of 112 wins and just 4 losses-an extraordinary 96.5% win rate.

No other player comes close to Nadal‘s achievements in Paris. France’s Max Decugis won the title eight times between 1903 and 1914, all in the Amateur Era. Sweden’s Bjorn Borg lifted the trophy six times from 1974 to 1981, making him one of the most successful players of the Open Era behind Nadal.

With Novak Djokovic and younger stars like Alcaraz and Sinner collectively holding only four French Open titles between them, Nadal‘s record appears untouchable for the foreseeable future.
