Roger Stone alleges MAGA conspiracy in Antonio Brown’s legal battle

Former NFL star Antonio Brown has once again become the center of intense public attention amid an attempted-murder case that has captured headlines across sports and political media alike.

The case stems from a shooting outside a celebrity boxing event in Miami, with questions swirling over self-defense claims and now, allegations of political targeting.

Brown was arrested in November 2025 after being extradited from Dubai, where he had reportedly spent several months evading U.S. authorities. The incident in question occurred on May 16, 2025, outside a celebrity boxing match in Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood.

Police reports indicate that Brown allegedly engaged in a physical altercation with a man, then took a handgun from a security officer and fired two shots, grazing the victim’s neck.

The case quickly escalated, prompting the issuance of a warrant in June. Brown did not immediately surrender, resurfacing months later abroad, adding a layer of intrigue to the legal proceedings.

Upon his return to Miami, Brown entered a not-guilty plea and was released on a $25,000 bond, with a requirement to wear a GPS ankle monitor while awaiting trial.

Prosecutors have noted that because a firearm was allegedly involved, Brown could face up to 30 years in prison under enhanced sentencing provisions. The combination of celebrity status, high-profile legal teams, and public attention has made the case highly visible.

His defense, led by attorney Mark Eiglarsh, has moved to dismiss the charges under Florida’s “stand your ground” statute. They argue that Brown fired the shots in self-defense, believing he was facing imminent harm. Court filings describe the gunfire as a “warning shot,” framing the incident as a necessary protective action rather than a criminal assault.

These legal maneuvers set the stage for a contentious courtroom battle over how self-defense laws are interpreted and applied to high-profile figures.

Conspiracy claims and political overtones

Adding further complexity, Roger Stone, a longtime advisor to President Donald Trump, has publicly claimed that Brown is being “targeted because he is MAGA,” suggesting the case may be influenced by political motivations.

“Hanging with probably the greatest wide receiver in American football history, Antonio Brown, who did nothing wrong. Brown has been targeted because he is MAGA,” Stone wrote on X.

Stone’s assertions introduce a controversial layer to what has been a criminal case that is anything but straightforward. Supporters of Brown argue that his political affiliations may be intensifying the scrutiny around him, while critics caution that such claims risk overshadowing the details of the incident, including witness testimony and video evidence allegedly showing Brown handling a gun before the shots were fired.

As the legal process unfolds, Brown’s defense is pushing for dismissal, while prosecutors are preparing for a potentially lengthy trial.
