There’s been a lot of chatter about Rob Gronkowski possibly making another return to the NFL, but not everyone is convinced. In fact, one of the league’s top insiders shut down that speculation in just two words.
On Tuesday, Cecil Lammey of Footballguys.com reported that Gronk was spotted training in Colorado, supposedly preparing for an NFL comeback. It didn’t take long for Ian Rapoport to step in and put an end to the excitement.
“Nope. Nonsense.” That was Rapoport’s short but decisive response when asked about the rumors, making it clear he wasn’t buying the hype.
Fans weigh In on Rapoport’s take
NFL fans wasted no time reacting to Rapoport’s comment. Some found it hilarious, while others were quick to call out the source of the rumor. “A fantasy football guy being wrong about insider information? Shocking,” one fan joked. Another chimed in, “I love when Ian shuts down bad reporting.”
Given Rapoport’s deep connections in the NFL world, his dismissal holds weight. He regularly breaks major stories alongside Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo, so if something major were happening with Gronk, he’d likely be one of the first to know.
Other top insiders, including Adam Schefter, haven’t backed the rumor either, reinforcing the idea that this latest buzz is more smoke than fire.
What does Gronk have to say?
Gronkowski himself hasn’t suggested he wants to play again. In a recent interview with FOX Sports, he reflected on his career, talking about his favorite season rather than hinting at a return. He spoke fondly about his first Super Bowl win, reminiscing about the challenges he overcame that year, but there was no indication that he’s eyeing a comeback.
Since hanging up his cleats (again) after the 2021 season, Gronk has carved out a solid post-NFL career as a broadcaster and media personality. Given his history of injuries, returning to football would be a significant risk.
Will the Gronk comeback rumors ever stop? Maybe not. But if Rapoport’s reaction is any indication, fans shouldn’t expect to see him back on the field anytime soon.
