Rob Gronkowski‘s signature laugh was back in full force this week when the former NFL star appeared on Caleb Pressley‘s popular YouTube series Sundae Conversation. It didn’t take long for the host to catch Gronk off guard with a zinger about his former coach, Bill Belichick.
While the conversation focused largely on Gronk’s post-retirement adventures and fun-loving persona, things took an unexpected turn when Pressley brought up Belichick‘s much-discussed new relationship with 24-year-old Jordon Hudson.
“Bill’s picked up a 24-year-old,” Pressley said.
Gronkowski, thinking Pressley was referring to the Buffalo Bills, replied, “The Buffalo Bills?”
“No,” Pressley responded. “Have you met Coach Belichick’s girlfriend?”
That’s when Gronk completely lost it.
“He got me,” Gronk said through laughter. “How did I fall for that one?”
The moment instantly went viral, not just because of the joke, but because Gronk’s reaction mirrored what many have expressed online about the 73-year-old coaching legend’s surprising new relationship.
Relationship with Jordon Hudson still drawing scrutiny
Belichick, the longtime face of the New England Patriots dynasty, has faced persistent questions about Hudson in recent months, especially following a peculiar moment during a CBS Sunday Morning interview in April when she interrupted the segment more than once.
While Belichick is now associated with the University of North Carolina football program in an advisory capacity, rumors continue to swirl that Hudson‘s presence is more than a personal matter.
Gronkowski, in a separate radio interview last week with Boston’s 98.5 The Sports Hub, hinted that Hudson’s involvement may be proving to be a distraction.
“You know, and in the back of your head, too, you’re just thinking to yourself as well, ‘When you were on the Patriots, the whole goal was to eliminate all the distractions that can possibly happen while you’re on the team,'” Gronkowski said. “And don’t bring those distractions to the team and in the locker room, and we’re just looking down at the program in North Carolina and it feels like there are just distractions 24/7 down there. There’s no football talk as well.”
Belichick, for his part, attempted to clarify the situation in a recent conversation with ESPN, explaining that while Hudson was copied on some emails related to the football program, she was simply helping him stay organized during a period when UNC lacked a sports information staff.
“She doesn’t have anything to do with UNC football,” Belichick stated. “It would be personal opportunities. It could be a speaking thing, it could be an appearance on this, or talk about this, or somebody wants whatever it happens to be – an autograph, or that type of thing.
“One of the first things that came out when North Carolina sent me emails saying, ‘These people want to talk to you…’ I sent back an email, ‘Can you please copy Jordon on these requests?’ so she could at least filter through them because there was nobody. We didn’t have a sports information guy.”
