Rob Gronkowski ‘betrays’ Tom Brady and Travis Kelce with surprising prediction of who will win the 2026 Super Bowl

Rob Gronkowski has never been shy about making bold statements, but his latest prediction may come as a shock to former teammates and fellow star tight ends alike.

During a recent appearance on Up and Adams with Kay Adams, the future Hall of Famer stunned fans by picking the Detroit Lions as his choice to win the 2026 Super Bowl.

For a player closely tied to Tom Brady’s dynasty in New England and often compared to current Chiefs star Travis Kelce, the declaration almost feels like a betrayal.

Instead of siding with Brady‘s old Patriots legacy or Kansas City’s reigning dynasty, Gronk threw his full support behind a franchise still searching for its first Lombardi Trophy.

Gronk’s bold call: Lions vs. Bills

“The Detroit Lions. That’s who I’m picking to win the Super Bowl, the Detroit Lions,” Gronkowski declared.

“But also like, they’re gonna face the Buffalo Bills, and it’s gonna be a first if either of those teams wins… I think the Lions pull it off. Last year, the Lions, in my eyes, were in the lead to win it all. But when you have 14 guys go down in injuries, you have no chance at winning a Super Bowl… That’s why it’s so hard to pick who is going to make the Super Bowl. But with Futures Day and being psychic, I’m going with the Detroit Lions vs. the Buffalo Bills.”

It’s a daring prediction considering Detroit’s history. The Lions are one of the NFL’s oldest franchises but remain without a championship in the Super Bowl era.

Despite their impressive turnaround under head coach Dan Campbell, many analysts still hesitate to crown them favorites given their postseason struggles.

Detroit’s road to redemption

Gronkowski‘s faith in Detroit stems partly from what they accomplished last season. The Lions surged to the No. 1 seed in the NFC, entering the playoffs with legitimate championship expectations.

Fans were buzzing about the chance to finally break through. But the dream collapsed quickly when they were upset in the Divisional Round, falling 45-31 to the Washington Commanders.

Injuries played a massive role in that defeat, something Gronk himself pointed out. A staggering 14 players went down at various points in the year, robbing Detroit of depth when it mattered most.

Gronk‘s logic is simple: if this roster can stay healthy, they have as good a chance as anyone to lift the Lombardi Trophy.

The Lions’ upcoming season opener against the Green Bay Packers will set the tone for what could be a defining year.

With Jared Goff leading the offense, Aidan Hutchinson anchoring the defense, and Campbell continuing to build a gritty culture, the Lions enter 2025 with both talent and momentum.

A prediction that stirs the NFL

By choosing Detroit, Gronkowski essentially passed over the NFL’s most dominant modern powers. Tom Brady’s Patriots may be history, but the Chiefs and Travis Kelce remain active contenders.

To bypass Patrick Mahomes’ dynasty in favor of a long-suffering Lions franchise sends a message: the league’s balance of power may be shifting.

Whether Gronk’s forecast proves prophetic or premature, one thing is certain, his prediction adds even more intrigue to a season already loaded with storylines. And if Detroit does manage to pull off the unthinkable, Gronk will look less like a “traitor” and more like the rare NFL legend who saw it coming before anyone else.
