Rivalry brewing between Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers forces WNBA to make unexpected move

Two of the WNBA’s most promising talents will go head-to-head on August 1 as Paige Bueckers’Dallas Wings take on Caitlin Clark’sIndiana Fever, and the buzz is so great it has even pushed the sport to make a radical decision.

Originally booked to take place at the College Park Center, the match will now be moved to the American Airlines Center, which seats up to 20,500 people and is home to the NBA’s Mavericks outfit.

The change will see an extra 12,500 tickets hit the market in Dallas for fans clamouring to watch the two stars do battle on the court, with fans able to watch from home on ION from 17:30 ET/14:30 PT.

Fans can try to land the tickets from 09:00 ET/06:00 PT on Friday, July 11 through Ticketmaster. Those with further enquiries are directed to head to the Dallas Wings Ticket Office at (817) 469-9464 or [email protected] website.

“Just over a week after recording one of the highest attended games in WNBA history, the Dallas Wings have announced they will move the Aug. 1 Indiana Fever game to American Airlines Center in downtown Dallas,” the Wings said in a statement.

“Tipoff remains at 6:30 p.m. CT, with the game airing nationally on ION. Fans who have already purchased tickets to Wings-Fever on Aug. 1 when it was scheduled for College Park Center will be refunded via AXS.

“Wings Season Ticket Members and those who purchased group tickets through the Dallas Wings Ticket Office will have their tickets relocated to a comparable location at American Airlines Center.”

Caitlin Clark injury update: When will she be back?

The hype builds upon a June 27 clash that saw an astonishing 20,409 people head to the American Airlines Center to watch the Fever run out 94-86 winners. Bueckers scored 27 points, one rebound and recorded six assists on the night.

She is currently averaging 18.7 points, 5.7 assists and 4.4 rebounds in her rookie season as the 2025 WNBA Draft overall first pick transitions to the professional scene following her national championship win with Geno Auriemma’s UConn Huskies.

Meanwhile Clark is posting 18.2 points, 8.9 assists and five rebounds per game, in what has been a very disrupted season due to two separate injuries forcing her to miss time. The guard was out from May 5-June 14 and has been injured again from June 25.

As a result, Clark missed the victory over the Minnesota Lynx to land the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup Final, although Mitchell has stepped up since June 25 by posting 20, 32, 12, 25 and 19 points in the five games since.

Clark is an outside bet to return to a July 9 clash with the Golden State Valkyries, and has been working on semi-live shooting drills but is yet to return to full team practice. The Fever are currently .500 in the Eastern Conference, three wins behind the New York Liberty.
