The riots that are disrupting the city of Los Angeles, where Atletico arrived on Tuesday to play in the Club World Cup, are intensifying just four days before the start of the competition. The city center is full of police officers and the sound of helicopters and police sirens is constant throughout the day.
On Monday night, the night before the team arrived, it was particularly busy. In fact, the riots reached the front line of the Conrad Hotel, home of Atletico Madrid in Los Angeles for the next two weeks. A few meters away, just across the street, is the iconic Walt Disney Concert Hall, home of the city’s philharmonic orchestra, an important tourist attraction in this area.
One of the access doors to the compound was attacked with stones and other objects to the point of causing the complete breakage of the glass. The door had to be shielded and replaced by wooden pieces to prevent the demonstrators from entering the compound. It is a door that is only 20 meters from the entrance to the Conrad Hotel, where the players are staying.
Curfew
In addition, according to a Mexican employee, the demonstrators painted graffiti on other parts of the building’s facade. There are several concerts scheduled for tonight at the Los Angeles Philharmonic, which yesterday afternoon were at risk of being canceled.
Everything got worse when the government decreed a curfew from 8:00 p.m. local time in several of the streets in the area where the Rojiblancos are staying. Almost 11 hours without being able to leave the hotel with police cars patrolling the streets and the logical concern of the Atletico expedition and all those who are in Los Angeles.
