Reunion brews for Brooks Koepka and the PGA Tour as LIV Golf departure becomes official

Brooks Koepka left to chase petro-dollars with LIV Golf, but it appears he misses the highest level of competition on the PGA Tour, and for that reason, he has now decided that the time has come to return to the home that first shaped his career.

Koepka is only 35 years old, and despite spending time away from the PGA Tour while watching Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler rise from a distance, he has determined that this is the right moment to rejoin the fold.

The departure of Brooks Koepka from LIV Golf

This past Tuesday, December 23, 2025, golfer Brooks Koepka announced that he was leaving LIV Golf because he wants to be closer to home and his family, and almost immediately after the statement was released, the PGA Tour responded in kind.

Brooks Koepka is a highly accomplished professional, and we wish him and his family continued success. The PGA Tour continues to offer the best professional golfers the most competitive, challenging, and lucrative environment in which to pursue greatness.

With this message, the organization sought to make one thing clear: Koepka is being welcomed back into its ranks without reservation, closing the door on speculation about whether his return would be resisted or delayed.

That said, he may not be able to return to tournament action until August 2026, as one full year must pass from his last competitive appearance, meaning he will miss several major events before being fully eligible again in 2027.

Brooks Koepka’s departure was multimillion-dollar

Brooks Koepka moved to LIV Golf in 2022, and according to multiple reports published at the time, he did so for the considerable sum of 100 million dollars. Alongside him, Jon Rahm, Phil Mickelson, and Bryson DeChambeau also made the jump.

This decision represented a seismic shift in professional golf, but it also helped underline that the PGA Tour is not the only path to success, even as it forced the traditional structure of the sport to confront unprecedented financial competition.

The arrival of LIV Golf pushed the PGA Tour to reform its prize structures, as competition intensified while oil-backed funding surged, creating real concern that additional elite talent could abandon established tournaments for guaranteed contracts elsewhere.

Unfortunately, LIV Golf failed to become a profitable television product, and as players enjoyed guaranteed money, many observers noted that competitive intensity gradually eroded across the events being staged on that circuit.

Now all signs indicate that Koepka will return to the game’s biggest tournaments after completing the required LIV exit period, with the opportunity to once again captivate fans and challenge the very best players on the tour. During upcoming seasons ahead within the professional circuit landscape worldwide today broadly.
