Real Madrid confirm they will play Copa del Rey final: “The values of football must prevail”

There will be a Cup final. Real Madrid have confirmed in a statement that they will take to the pitch at La Cartuja after a few hours of tension in which conversations between Florentino Perez and Rafael Louzan have taken place constantly. “In view of the rumours that have arisen in the last few hours, Madrid would like to point out that our team has never considered refusing to play in the final,” reads the first lines of the new statement from the club, whose concentration has been more tense than ever.

Real Madrid’s full statement

“In light of the rumours that have arisen in the last few hours, Real Madrid would like to point out that our team has never considered withdrawing from tomorrow’s final. Our club understands that the unfortunate and inappropriate statements made by the referees appointed for this match, 24 hours before the final, cannot tarnish a sporting event of worldwide significance that will be watched by hundreds of millions of people and out of respect also to all the fans who are planning to travel to Seville, and to all those who are already in the Andalusian capital.Real Madrid understands that the values of football must prevail, despite the hostility and animosity that have once again been demonstrated against our club by these referees appointed for the final.

The outrage persists in the club

Although Real Madrid stated in its press release that at no time did it consider withdrawing from the final, the reality is that the possibility of a walkout has hung over the white club’s camp in Seville, where all options have been put on the table and where they still cannot believe what happened in the morning at the referees’ press conference. Described by Madrid as “a show”, Madrid understands that the Federation should have changed the referees after words that they consider “intolerable”.

In the conversations that have taken place throughout the afternoon between Real Madrid and the Federation, the club has repeatedly stressed that the referees in charge of the final have shown a clear and manifest animosity and hostility towards Real Madrid, something that is very worrying ahead of the duel.

What has most annoyed Real Madrid, and they have made this known to the RFEF, were the threats of Gonzalez Fuertes and that De Burgos Bengoetxea has taken this whole issue to the personal side, considering Madrid that they have not been professional and that this can affect when making decisions in the match.

“It’s basic Competition and Sports Law,” Real Madrid said when talking about what happened at the refereeing press conference, considering that the RFEF and the CTA should have acted and changed the entire refereeing team.

In the end, after evaluating everything, Madrid will take to the field. The trip of 30,000 Madrid fans to Seville has outweighed everything else. “An event of worldwide importance that will be seen by hundreds of millions of people cannot be tarnished, and out of respect also to all the fans who are planning to travel to Seville, and to all those who are already in the Andalusian capital,” said the club.
