Rashee Rice sentenced after 119 MPH crash in Dallas: What it means for his NFL future

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is heading into the 2025 NFL season with more than just rehab on his plate. On Thursday, the 24-year-old was sentenced to 30 days in jail for his role in a high-speed crash that shook up a Dallas highway last year.

Rice pleaded guilty to two felony charges tied to the incident: one for causing serious bodily injury while racing, and another for failing to stop and render aid. Authorities say he was driving a Lamborghini Urus at a blistering 119 mph, weaving through traffic before triggering a multi-vehicle pileup that left several people injured.

According to the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office, Rice fled the scene on foot without checking on the victims. Prosecutors called the behavior “aggressive” and “reckless,” pointing out how easily the outcome could have been worse.

A Costly Lesson in Speed and Responsibility

Along with jail time, Rice was sentenced to five years of probation, 250 hours of community service, and must complete a driving safety course. In a statement released through his attorney, he apologized for his actions and said he’s been haunted by the damage caused.

“I am profoundly sorry,” Rice said. “There have been a lot of sleepless nights thinking about the damage I caused. I will do everything I can to make it right.”

The Kansas City Chiefs kept their response brief, stating they were aware of the sentencing but had no further comment due to the legal process still playing out.

Meanwhile, the NFL is expected to weigh in. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the league is reviewing the case under its personal conduct policy. A suspension is firmly in play.

Rice was limited to four games last season after suffering a knee injury in September, cutting short what had been a promising start. He had quickly become one of Patrick Mahomes’ go-to targets and was expected to take a bigger role in 2025.

Now, with training camp around the corner, questions loom not just about his health-but his availability.
