Raiders make brutal cut: Head coach Pete Carrol decided to stick with just three QBs for training camp

The Las Vegas Raiders, fresh off a dismal 2024 offensive performance that saw them rank 29th in the NFL with just 18.2 points per game, are aggressively cleaning house in their quarterback room. With training camp set to open on Thursday, the team announced a significant roster move today, waiving undrafted quarterback Carter Bradley.

The Raiders’ 2024 season was plagued by inefficiency under center, with their three quarterbacks combining for a meager 19 touchdowns against 16 interceptions. This offseason, new general manager John Spytek made a decisive move, trading a third-round pick to the Seattle Seahawks for veteran quarterback Geno Smith.

Smith’s arrival not only represents a massive upgrade for the Raiders but also reunites him with head coach Pete Carroll, signaling a new era for the team.

Bradley followed Minshew out the exit door

Smith’s addition immediately shifted the pecking order, demoting Aidan O’Connell to a backup role and prompting the earlier release of veteran Gardner Minshew. While undrafted rookie Carter Bradley had managed to remain on the roster through the coaching and front office changes, his time with the team has now come to an end.

The Raiders also drafted North Dakota State quarterback Cam Miller in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, indicating their commitment to rebuilding the position. With the team likely to carry only three quarterbacks into the regular season, Bradley became the unfortunate odd man out.

Smith, O’Connell, and Miller are the survivors

Bradley, who joined the Raiders last offseason after going undrafted out of South Alabama, spent the majority of the 2024 campaign on the practice squad and did not appear in a regular-season game. He did show flashes in the preseason, completing 17 of 34 passes for 225 yards and a touchdown.

With Bradley now off the roster, the Raiders’ quarterback depth chart appears set with Geno Smith as the starter, backed up by Aidan O’Connell and rookie Cam Miller. The move also opens up an additional roster spot for Las Vegas as they head into what promises to be a pivotal training camp.
