Quinn Ewers would be ‘ideal’ backup for Buffalo Bills’ Josh Allen

The Buffalo Bills are still in search of a good backup quarterback, one of the most valuable positions and one that should not be taken lightly.

Currently, Josh Allen, their QB and the 2024 NFL MVP, is making his title count for the Bills, who secured him for the next six years. However, the team has three potential candidates in its sights, but a fourth would be “ideal”.

Should a backup for Allen be needed, Mitch Trubiski would do a great job. The former No. 2 overall draft pick has one year left on his contract and would be the Bills’ first choice. In addition, Mike White and Shane Buechele are also in the mix and would be added to the list of options.

However, with eyes on the NFL Draft, the 22-year-old college star from the Texas Longhorns could be the answer the Buffalo Bills are looking for. It’s Quinn Ewers.

Here’s what Derrick Klassen of The Athletic says: “From the Bills’ perspective, a young backup quarterback should be on the table…. Ewers would bring functional athleticism and arm talent for Joe Brady. He still struggles with pocket presence and touch accuracy, especially in the backfield, but there is enough talent there to mold a functional backup” he wrote optimistically.

When could he join the Bills?

While hopes of Quinn Ewers hearing his name called in the first three rounds of the NFL Draft are slim – and even slimmer for his position – if Ewers were still available, probably in the fourth or fifth he could be called up.

What does Ewers say?

Despite the speculation, Quinn has given a nod to his ideal destination. During a recent conversation with NFL Network’s Rich Eisen, Ewers talked about the possibility of playing for the Las Vegas Raiders and how much he admires his coach: “Carroll would be amazing…. He always talks about ‘compete, compete, compete.’ I think he says that word 100 times a day” he said.
