Quinn Ewers snubbed by ESPN as the quarterback looks to silence his critics with the Dolphins

The quarterback spot at Texas has become hallowed ground. Every few years, it seems, another phenom steps up with sky-high expectations and a national audience ready to dissect every throw.Quinn Ewers lived through that reality. Arch Manningis living it now. And waiting just around the corner is Dia Bell-the 2026commit who’s already lighting up the recruiting scene.

Bell isn’t just a rising star. He’s the rising star. A former basketball kid turned five-star quarterback, the American Heritage standout has been committed to Texas since mid-2024, brushing off offers from SEC giants like Georgia and LSU. And now, after a jaw-dropping performance at the Elite 11 regionals, ESPN’s Tom Luginbill made a comment that turned heads in Austin-and beyond.

“He’s a better athlete and runner than Quinn Ewers,”Luginbill said during a breakdown on ESPN. It wasn’t just praise. It was a direct comparison. And for Ewers, now trying to carve out a role with the Miami Dolphins, it wasn’t exactly a confidence boost.

As Dia Bell rises, Quinn Ewers finds himself chasing a different kind of spotlight in Miami

Ewers has been navigating his share of critics since his early Ohio State days. After transferring to Texas, his strong arm and deep-ball talent never fully silenced the skepticism. Now, despite throwing for nearly 6,000 yards and 41 touchdowns in college, his draft stock slipped-and his reputation may be slipping too, thanks in part to the growing legend of a high schooler.

To his credit, Ewers hasn’t bitten back. In a recent interview with The Athletic, he said, “All the outside noise? That’s just motivation.” And he’ll need every bit of it. With Tua Tagovailoa still locked in as Miami’s starter, Ewers is facing a developmental year-if not more. NFL analyst Lance Zierlein believes the tools are there, but it’s a question of growth: “He needs consistency. Miami might be a great place for that.”

Meanwhile, Dia Bell is trending in the opposite direction. Even after a season-ending leg injury, he’s being hailed by On3’s Cody Bellaire as the top Elite 11 performer headed into finals. Bell is sharp, mobile, and confident. The Texas hype machine isn’t slowing down-and now, he’s the face of it.

Quinn Ewers knows the drill. The spotlight moves fast. In Austin, it’s already found a new favorite. In Miami, he’s hoping it finds its way back.
