Quinn Ewers’ NFL Draft stock took a big hit: From 5-star prospect to Day 2 pick by the team you wouldn’t expect

Quinn Ewers, once a highly touted 5-star recruit, has seen his NFL Draft stock fluctuate dramatically. After a disappointing 2024 season marred by injuries, including a lingering oblique injury that forced him to miss the Senior Bowl, Ewers is projected as a Day 2 or 3 pick.

The New York Jets, a team desperate for a franchise quarterback after Aaron Rodgers’ departure, have emerged as a potential landing spot. ESPN’s Matt Miller mocked Ewers to the Jets at #42 in the second round, a pick that intrigued some analysts.

“If this is who you like, and this is where you want to go, take a sh-t on him,” said Casey of The FF Dynasty YouTube channel. “I think Quinn Ewers’ got all the tools, can make all the throws. I kind of don’t hate this.”

Ewers to the Jets?

However, Casey’s assessment was made before Rodgers’ departure was confirmed. With the Jets needing an immediate starter, drafting Ewers, who may need some time to develop, presents a challenge.

Ewers had one optional year of NCAA eligibility left. However, the Longhorns star decided to make the jump to the NFL, despite his draft stock dropping seriously in 2024. His arrival on the professional gridiron will not be easy, especially if the Jets choose him.

The team would be starting its second rebuild in less than three years, with fans and management eager for results. Rodgers’ departure left the team in uncertainty and this could be compounded by the departure of star receiver Davante Adams, leaving the team’s future quarterback with more questions than answers.

Ewers sees hope

Ewers’ injury history is a major concern. While he has the talent, consistent on-field performance has been elusive. The recent struggles of his rival, Jalen Milroe, at the Senior Bowl could potentially boost the draft stock of the Longhorns former star.

Ultimately, Ewers’ NFL future hinges on finding the right fit and maximizing his potential.
