Puka Nacua raises Antonio Brown comparisons as concerns mount

Puka Nacua delivered the best season of his young career in 2025, setting personal highs across multiple statistical categories and earning First-Team All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors with the Los Angeles Rams and the NFL.

But his breakout year was overshadowed by a series of off-field controversies, including an antisemitic gesture during a live stream, public criticism of NFL officials on X (formerly Twitter) that led to a $25,000 fine, and an incident in which he allegedly tried to sneak a friend into the Rams’ facility in violation of team rules.

Last month, a Los Angeles woman filed a civil lawsuit against the 24-year-old wide receiver, accusing him of making “numerous unprovoked antisemitic remarks” and repeatedly biting her on the shoulder during a December incident. Nacua has denied the allegations, and a hearing is scheduled for April 14.

According to The Athletic‘s Nate Atkins, Nacua voluntarily entered a rehabilitation facility last month amid growing scrutiny over his off-field behavior.

Is Puka Nacua the next Antonio Brown?

Sports analyst Dan Patrick has raised concerns about the direction of Nacua’s off-field trajectory, warning about his long-term future in the league.

“Puka Nacua is a great football player, but he wants to be famous. He wants to be internet famous. He talked about dating Sydney Sweeney, and it just feels like he wants to be more than just a great football player,” Patrick said.

“But let’s say three years from now, is he going to be an All-Pro or is he going to be Antonio Brown? That would be my concern.”

Patrick pointed to Antonio Brown as a cautionary example, noting how elite talent can be derailed by off-field issues.

Brown, once one of the most dominant receivers in the NFL, earned multiple All-Pro and Pro Bowl selections and won a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, his career later unraveled amid legal troubles, controversies, and erratic behavior.

Reports indicate Nacua is expected to remain in the rehabilitation facility until completing the program, with the goal of returning to team activities ahead of the Rams’ preseason schedule.
