Prince George leaves Prince William alone at next royal engagement, even though he’s usually his favorite companion

Prince William will be representing the Royal Family alone in Switzerland as he cheers on England’s Lionesses in their Euro 2025 group stage battle against the Netherlands.

The absence of his eldest son, Prince George, marks a change from last summer’s men’s tournament, where the young royal was a regular and much-loved presence by his father’s side.

The Prince of Wales, who has often been seen sharing major football occasions with Prince George, attended several England matches at Euro 2024, including the dramatic final in Berlin.

Father and son were photographed in the stands as England fell 2-1 to Spain-a bittersweet moment for royal watchers who have grown accustomed to their sporting bond.

According to GB News, Prince William is expected to make the journey to Zurich without his usual companion.

Royal sources indicate that Prince George, widely regarded as his father’s favorite matchday partner, will not be present for England’s key group match against the Dutch women’s team.

Royal duties and football passions keep William busy

The trip to Switzerland comes just after a high-profile day for the heir to the throne.

On Tuesday, Prince William took on a central role as he and the Princess of Wales welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron for their State Visit to the United Kingdom.

The royal couple greeted the French dignitaries at RAF Northolt, representing King Charles III at the official arrival, before joining other senior royals at a lavish State Banquet that evening.

Amid the formalities of royal duty, Prince William has continued to show his support for English football, especially in his capacity as Patron of the Football Association.

Just last week, he visited St. George’s Park, the national football centre, to meet England Women’s Head Coach Sarina Wiegman, senior FA figures, and the current Lionesses squad.

The visit included a briefing on the team’s tournament preparations and a behind-the-scenes look at their journey to Euro 2025.

William took the opportunity to engage with players, staff, and their families, taking part in a shirt printing activity in the changing rooms.

His hands-on approach culminated in the prince personally presenting official tournament shirts to the players selected for England’s Euro squad, wishing them luck as they prepared to represent their country.

As the England Lionesses prepare for their critical group-stage fixture in Zurich, Prince William will be in the stands offering royal support-this time without Prince George at his side.

The absence of his eldest son will not go unnoticed by royal followers, many of whom have come to cherish the bond between the two at major sporting events.

With a busy week of royal engagements behind him and the eyes of England fans on the Lionesses, Prince William continues to balance his responsibilities as a senior royal and passionate football supporter, even if, for one night in Switzerland, he must do so without his favorite companion.
