The Philadelphia Eagles are Super Bowl champions after taking down the Kansas City Chiefs in New Orleans back in February.
Their victory in Super Bowl LIX confirmed them as the best in the league. Although they boast such big names as Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley and more, they are perhaps best known for one play: the tush push.
Run to perfection since 2022, the play consists of two players lining up behind the quarterback and pushing them forward.
However, there has been increased talk within the league over possibly banning the move, with the Green Bay Packers recently sending the NFL a proposal to do just that.
Trump’s take on the tush push
The debate over the tush push has become so widespread that even the President of the United States Donald Trump weighed in on the matter.
Speaking with The Spectator, Trump said that he wouldn’t ban the play. Instead, he would like another part of the game changed.
“I wouldn’t ban it. But what I would ban is the horrible kickoff rule, this new kickoff rule that is so bad…so bad,” said Trump.
The tush push made it all the way to the Super Bowl as Jalen Hurts opened the scoring for the Eagles against the Chiefs with the play.
Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott recently expressed he isn’t a fan of the play, calling it a hazard due to injury risks while speaking at the NFL Scouring Combine.
“My strong feeling is let’s make sure that what we are doing keeps our players healthy and safe,” McDermott stated.
“I don’t know if the right word is … the physics of it scare me in terms of some of this and the positioning of heads or spines or whatever, that scares me.
“I’m no medical expert, but that is my number one concern.”
