Potential Canelo Alvarez opponent remains open to fighting Mexican, unless Terence Crawford calls

Saturday night came and went, and with it went Canelo Alvarez‘s undisputed super middleweight titles. Terence “Bud” Crawford, who had already cemented a historic career, reached a new level and handily defeated Alvarez in front of over 70,000 fans at Allegiant Stadium. It was another banner night for Crawford, but this one was truly special.

Bud made Alvarez look like he never really has. Canelo was outmatched against Dmitry Bivol and Floyd Mayweather Jr., but it was Crawford who really seemed to do damage against the Mexican. With the fight in the rearview mirror, eyes are now on both boxers as they weigh their options. Crawford looks likely to go back down in weight, while Canelo has confirmed he will continue fighting, most likely at 168.

Hamzah Sheeraz is down to fight Canelo Alvarez or Terence Crawford

If he stays there, Alvarez will have the opportunity to fight against someone who had already thrown his hat in the ring. Hamzah Sheeraz, one of the top contenders in the super middleweight division, is not giving up on the chance to fight Canelo. But he would also welcome a Crawford bout if Bud stays at his weight.

I could still fight Canelo. I don’t know if he would fight as soon as February though. I’d just like a shot at the titles. Crawford has got them at the minute. If he stays at the weight, I’ll fight him. I don’t see him going down. There are no big fights for him at 160. Even at 154, you can rule that out. I’d be one of the bigger fights for him.

Sheeraz is coming off of a stunning knockout win over Edgar Berlanga in July. At 6-foot-3 with incredible punching power, Sheeraz is dangerous for any fighter, and that includes both Alvarez and Crawford. He might not have the name power, but he has the ability to deliver a spectacle in the ring.
