The US Open cap-snatching incident at Court 11 has taken an unexpected turn. Piotr Szczerek, the millionaire CEO of Polish paving company Drogbruk, has reportedly expressed regret following the viral backlash over snatching a signed cap from a young fan – and is now seeking to make things right.

Szczerek‘s actions sparked widespread outrage after he appeared on live broadcast grabbing the cap that Polish tennis player Kamil Majchrzak had offered to a boy named Brock.

Majchrzak had just upset ninth seed Karen Khachanov and was signing memorabilia when the incident occurred – leaving the child visibly upset. The video ignited critical responses across social networks, with many condemning the act as “disgusting”.

Majchrzak’s heartfelt reaction steals the spotlight

Responding swiftly, Majchrzak leveraged social media to reunite with the young fan. He posted an Instagram story calling for help locating the boy – and within an hour, brokered a joyful meeting where he personally presented Brock with a signed cap and other memorabilia.

Majchrzak shared an image from their encounter captioned, “All good now!”-turning a viral controversy into a moment of kindness.

Meanwhile, Szczerek, who initially deactivated his social media accounts, has attempted to contact the boy’s family – reportedly in an effort to apologize and mend fences.

Although he hasn’t spoken publicly, sources indicate a genuine desire to make amends privately amidst the ongoing backlash to both his actions and the reputation of Drogbruk.

The drama, though unsettling, has ultimately led to a touching resolution – although whether Szczerek’s PR attempts will actually bring forgiveness from the public seems unlikely.
