Police say they have footage of Gervonta Davis’s violent incident with a woman at a club in October

Gervonta “Tank” Davis, the undefeated professional boxer and long-time World Boxing Association (WBA) lightweight titleholder, was taken into custody in Miami on January 28, 2026, following weeks of evading authorities.

The arrest stems from an alleged incident at a Miami Gardens gentlemen’s club in October 2025, which has since sparked both a criminal investigation and a civil lawsuit. Authorities have described the situation as violent and well-documented, with multiple surveillance angles reportedly capturing the entire episode.

According to police, the arrest warrant detailed that surveillance footage showed Davis approaching a woman working at the club in the early morning hours of October 27, 2025. The footage, law enforcement says, depicts Davis grabbing the woman by her hair and neck, then forcing her down a stairway.

Officers report that the woman tried to resist by holding onto the railing, but Davis allegedly continued to push her toward a garage area. The victim claimed that he also pulled her by her hoodie and controlled her movements, eventually leading to her escape into a nearby parking area.

The woman, who had previously been in an intimate relationship with Davis, reported minor injuries and sought medical attention following the confrontation. She later filed a police report and a civil lawsuit alleging battery, false imprisonment, aggravated battery, kidnapping, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Authorities also noted text messages the woman said contained death threats from Davis, which she provided as evidence of a prior history of domestic violence between them.

Legal and professional fallout from allegations

The criminal charges Davis faces include battery, false imprisonment, and attempted kidnapping, all tied to the October 2025 incident detailed in police and court documents. Bond was set at $16,000, and he remains in custody awaiting further legal proceedings.

Authorities confirmed that the surveillance footage played a key role in corroborating the woman’s account, and police reportedly spoke with witnesses who recalled previous confrontations between Davis and the victim at other locations.

The incident has already affected Davis‘ boxing career. A highly anticipated exhibition bout with YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul, originally scheduled for November 2025, was canceled following the civil lawsuit.

Additionally, the WBA placed Davis‘ lightweight title in “champion in recess” status amid the ongoing legal challenges. Davis, 31, has faced prior legal scrutiny, including earlier domestic violence allegations and arrests in South Florida. His legal team has not released a public statement regarding the latest charges.

As authorities investigate, both legal and professional ramifications for Davis remain significant, leaving fans and the boxing world watching closely.
