The current NFL free agency period has brought several intriguing storylines, such as Micah Parsons’ contract with the Dallas Cowboys and Brock Purdy’s deal with the San Francisco 49ers. However, the biggest story may be the future of Aaron Rodgers, the veteran quarterback and future Hall of Famer, who has once again created an engaging saga.
A couple of years ago, after leaving the Green Bay Packers, Rodgers waited until just days before the 2023 Draft to decide where to play. Now, it seems history is repeating itself. Several teams have expressed interest, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers. Rodgers was even seen training with DK Metcalf, one of the team’s receivers, but his future remains uncertain.
Ben Roethlisberger believes Rodgers Is just using the Steelers
Pittsburgh Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger shared his thoughts on the Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger podcast, expressing his concerns about Aaron Rodgers.
“I think Aaron [Rodgers] is secretly still waiting for Minnesota, and that’s why he hasn’t signed with the Steelers. Why else would he be out there throwing with DK, training, and showing it to the whole world saying, ‘I’m throwing with these guys,’ but not signing?”
Roethlisberger suspects that Rodgers is waiting for an opportunity with the Minnesota Vikings, as he may see the NFC team as a more complete option compared to the Steelers at the moment.
Meanwhile, in Pittsburgh, the current starting quarterback is Mason Rudolph, who is already familiar with the franchise. Roethlisberger said he would feel comfortable if head coach Mike Tomlin decides to give him the starting role for the upcoming season.
“Mason [Rudolph] can get the ball to the guys,” Roethlisberger said. “He can throw the ball. That has never been in doubt. He can make decisions and release the ball quickly. He’s also not afraid to throw deep passes.”
Steelers’ front office remains confident in Rodgers
Despite all the drama surrounding Rodgers, Steelers president Art Rooney II remains optimistic about the possibility of signing the four-time MVP and bringing in an experienced quarterback for the 2025 season.
