Pick No. 2 wakes up: Hunter shows his two-way star potential with dominant play

The game held in London between the Los Angeles Rams and the Jacksonville Jaguars generated plenty of anticipation, especially with fans eager to watch Travis Hunter in action. Unfortunately for the Florida team, things went nowhere near as planned once the kickoff took place.

The Rams quickly tilted the game in their favor. In what felt like an instant, they were already up 21-0. Although Jaguars fans hoped for a quick response from their team, it never came. The Los Angeles squad kept piling on points relentlessly.

Travis Hunter’s first touchdown arrives

Since the arrival of the former Colorado Buffaloes star and two-way sensation Travis Hunter in the NFL, expectations have been sky-high. Slowly but surely, he’s been meeting them, though at a much slower pace than expected.

Hunter has been used more on offense than defense and has become a valuable support for quarterback Trevor Lawrence. However, the Jaguars have turned into an unpredictable team. At times, they play spectacularly and even topple favorites, as they did against the Kansas City Chiefs. But on other occasions, like this Sunday, October 19, they fail to resemble that same dominant squad.

In the matchup held in the British capital, Jacksonville was already trailing by 28 points in the fourth quarter, still scoreless. That changed with 9:07 left on the clock, when Lawrence connected with Hunter on a play from the Rams’ 31-yard line, the result: the first touchdown for the 2025 No. 2 overall draft pick.

Still, there was little reason to celebrate. The Jaguars were being thoroughly dominated by the Rams, who showed no mercy and buried them early under an insurmountable deficit that made any comeback attempt impossible.

Poor statistics for the Jaguars, but not Travis Hunter

Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence delivered a subpar performance in London. He completed 23 of 48 pass attempts for 296 yards and one touchdown. Running back Travis Etienne managed just 44 rushing yards, averaging 5.5 per carry.

Another player who struggled running was Travis Hunter. He managed a meager 18 yards on two carries, but through the air, the picture was different. Targeted 12 times, Hunter surpassed the 100-yard mark, finishing with 101 yards, averaging 12.1 per reception, and scoring one touchdown, the lone highlight for Jacksonville.

For now, head coach Liam Coen has two weeks to regroup his team and restore its competitiveness. The Jaguars have a bye in Week 8 and will return on November 2 to face the Las Vegas Raiders on the road.

Coen must continue to work closely with his signal-caller to bring him back to the high level he displayed during his Clemson days. For now, both coach and quarterback are still struggling to find the consistency this team needs to be competitive again.
