Philadelphia Eagles linked to Pro Bowl tight end as Dallas Goedert’s future remains uncertain

The Philadelphia Eagles are predicted to pursue a Pro Bowl tight end in NFL free agency as they look to reload their offense following an early playoff exit.

After finishing the 2025 season with an 11-6 record, the Eagles saw their hopes of repeating as Super Bowl champions end in the wild-card round with a 23-19 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Now, attention has shifted toward roster upgrades – particularly at tight end.

A major question facing Philadelphia is the future of longtime starter Dallas Goedert, who has spent eight seasons with the franchise. During his tenure, Goedert has totaled 4,676 receiving yards and 35 touchdowns, becoming a key component of the Eagles’ offense.

However, the team has yet to reach a new contract agreement with the veteran, and Yahoo Sports analyst Matt Johnson believes a separation remains the most likely outcome.

Njoku could thrive with Hurts under the center

The Philadelphia Eagles bought themselves a little more time to decide on Dallas Goedert’s future with the club, but a split still seems to be the likeliest outcome.

He added that the offense needs additional help at tight end through both the draft and free agency.

One potential target, according to Johnson, is David Njoku of the Cleveland Browns. After nine seasons in Cleveland, Njoku could seek an opportunity with a championship contender and a quarterback capable of maximizing his receiving ability.

In Philadelphia, Njoku would join an offense already featuring playmakers such as Saquon Barkley, DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown, while defenses must also account for quarterback Jalen Hurts’ dual-threat ability.

The added attention on those stars could create favorable matchups and open passing lanes for a tight end.

Njoku is part of the Eagles’ puzzle

Njoku has compiled 4,062 receiving yards and 34 touchdowns during his NFL career and earned Pro Bowl honors in 2023 after posting 882 yards and six touchdowns in one of his most productive seasons.

How the Eagles address the position remains one of the organization’s central offseason storylines.

Whether Philadelphia ultimately retains Goedert, signs Njoku, or turns to the NFL Draft, the decision will play a significant role in shaping the offense heading into the 2026 campaign.

As free agency and offseason workouts approach, the Eagles continue evaluating ways to strengthen a roster aiming for another deep postseason run.
