Pete Alonso’s wife Haley admits she broke down in tears after her husband’s $155 million deal with the Orioles

Pete Alonso’s move to the Baltimore Orioles on a five-year, $155 million contract rocked Major League Baseball and left Mets fans in a state of shock. While many in Queens are still processing the news, Alonso himself is probably smiling at the deal that once again makes him one of the highest-paid hitters in baseball.

However, the most intense reaction came from the New York fans, who pointed directly at team owner Steve Cohen after the front office made virtually no effort to retain the five-time All-Star.

“I completely understand the reaction of the fans,” Cohen said. “There is still a lot of preseason time to put a team on the field that will play in the playoffs.”

Haley Alonso remembers the beginnings and thanks New York for its support

In the midst of the emotional chaos, the voice that resonated most was that of Haley Alonso, the slugger’s wife, who shared an extensive and heartfelt farewell on social media. The couple, who had their first child in September 2025, has become one of the most beloved by fans.

Haley posted a photo of Pete covered in dirt after his debut in 2019 and confessed that the image made her cry.

“Seeing him so dirty, so exhausted, but never so happy, brought that moment vividly to me,” she wrote. She also recalled that the two overcame a long-distance relationship from Alonso’s days in the Cape Cod Summer League to their marriage in Tampa Bay in 2021.

In his post, Haley also addressed the fans directly.

“I watched almost every game, like most of you, but I also saw everything Pete did behind the scenes,” she said. “As his wife, I can say that Pete gave you everything he had, every day.”

The 31-year-old stressed that while Alonso’s sporting accolades are valuable, his true legacy in New York should be “how much he cared and how much he gave to this sport, to this team and to this city.”

Haley closed her message with a touch of nostalgia and humor that only made fans’ emotions more intense.

“We fell in love with the city, the fans… sometimes radiant, sometimes lively, but always sincere,” she wrote. “We love this team and are eternally grateful. Thank you for loving Pete.”

The post, full of love and gratitude, ended up becoming a reflection of the bond the couple built with the city during six years living in Manhattan.

Pete Alonso leaves a legacy of decisive moments

Although Alonso had offensive ups and downs, his impact in crucial moments was undeniable. The former Rookie of the Year and All-MLB First Team member left his mark with key performances, such as the three-run homer in the ninth inning that propelled the Mets to win Game 3 of the 2024 Wild Card Series against Milwaukee.
