Pete Alonso made history again in Queens as he became the all-time home run leader for the New York Mets. However, his feat was partially overshadowed by his post-game comments, in which he addressed his uncertain future with the organization. Although he expressed his affection for the city and the fans, he made it clear that his continuity is not guaranteed.

I love New York City, I love the fans. It’s been great. But business is business

His current contract allows him to exercise a player option at the end of the season, which would make him a free agent during the winter. And while his desire to continue with the Mets is evident, he did not close the door on a possible departure: “It’s been an absolute luxury and pleasure to play here.”

Pete Alonso talks about his connection with the Mets and New York City

Amid the festive atmosphere surrounding his individual achievement, Alonso wanted to highlight the connection he has developed with the organization and its environment: “This group is really special… and it was one of the main reasons why I came back. Not just because of the talent, but also because of the people here,” said the slugger, in remarks shared by SNY.

That emotional closeness does not dispel the uncertainty: “I hope this doesn’t end,” commented the first baseman, reflecting his desire to continue wearing the Mets jersey. However, the tone of his words made it clear that he is aware that everything can change quickly in professional baseball.

Free agency is approaching: What decision will Pete Alonso make?

During his appearance on the New York Post’s “The Show” podcast, Alonso was asked directly if he wants to stay in Queens: “For me, I’ve grown up in this organization. It’s been really special,” he replied, reiterating his appreciation for the fans and those around him day-to-day in the locker room.
