The New York Mets boast a six-game winning streak after defeating the Miami Marlins 10-5 on Tuesday and are in a moment where any decision by their rivals can be costly as they have a respected lineup that opens with Francisco Lindor,Juan Soto and Pete Alonso.

In the overall balance, Pete Alonso drove in four runs, Francisco Lindor hit a home run to open the inning and Juan Soto closed with two singles and two runs in a game in which the New York weather was a factor at Citi Field with 43 degrees at the start, as well as 30 km/h winds and intense gusts.

Defensively, the Mets also looked solid, with starter Clay Holmes picking up his first win of the season with 10 strikeouts and 5 1/3 innings of work.

Pete Alonso capitalizes on Juan Soto’s walk

The game was close in the bottom of the sixth with the Mets up 6-5, when reliever Ronny Hernandez gave Juan Soto his first intentional walk of the season, a call that will serve as a warning to the team that wants to repeat the decision, as in the lineup, after follows Pete Alonso, who accepted the challenge and hit a double to left field that drove in three runs to lead New York to victory.

“I just wanted a pitch to hit,” Alonso told SNY after the game, adding: “Luckily, I got one where I was looking and I was able to take advantage of it.”

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza also had a reflection on what his rivals can do, that if they want to face Juan Soto, they should know that after him comes a powerful hitter like Pete Alonso.

“You either go after Juan Soto or you have another good one behind him. They decided to pitch to Pete, and I’m glad he took the leap,” Carlos Mendoza boasted of the Mets lineup depth.
