Pete Alonso explodes after Mets’ seventh straight loss and sends a serious message to his teammates

The New York Mets are going through a very bad time and this is starting to worry both the fans and the players themselves, after they fell for the seventh consecutive time, this time with a resounding 10-2 defeat to the Philadelphia Phillies. This setback not only deepens their crisis, but has also cost them the lead in the National League East.

The painful defeat was a reflection of the problems plaguing the Mets. The offense was ineffective, managing just two runs, both the result of solo home runs by Pete Alonso and Jeff McNeil in the sixth inning. But the real collapse came from the mound in the seventh inning, when the Mets’ starting pitching completely failed

The situation is so delicate that first baseman Pete Alonso did not hold back after the game when asked about the losing streak. “We’re not necessarily in sync on either side of the field right now. We’re not playing clean baseball, we’re not playing to our potential. It’s not our standard. It’s been a bad performance over the last seven games,” he said.

The worst streak since 2023

This seven-game losing streak is the longest for the Mets since July 2023 and highlights a worrying lack of consistency. One of the biggest problems is the inability to produce with runners in scoring position, a weakness that persists and is reflected in a meager batting average of .215, which worries the team, as Alonso said.

Friday’s game was another example of these problems. Despite a promising start from starter Blake Tidwell, the offense could not back him up beyond the home runs, and the defense had key moments of carelessness, such as an error by Nick Castellanos when he dropped a relay throw.

Manager’s opinion

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza also addressed the club’s poor run of form and tried to find an explanation. “I think it’s a little bit of everything. The starters are not going deep into games. Offensively, we struggle to score. Right now, we’re battling in all areas,” he explained at the press conference.

The Mets’ moment is tough and delicate, the manager cannot find a way to turn the situation around and the players are aware of the situation. Despite everything, they maintain faith in being able to reverse this and not reach an even longer streak that could surpass what happened in 2023 and increase the crisis.
