Pete Alonso celebrates another multi-million dollar deal from which he will receive nothing but sees as key to the future

Major League Baseball is in the early games of the 2025 season and the atmosphere is already building for the upcoming offseason with an anticipated move that shook up the next winter market, despite what might be expected for Pete Alonso, after the long 2024 saga

The contract extension of Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to a 14-year, $500 million deal with the Toronto Blue Jays completely changed the landscape, as he was set to be the most sought-after free agent, with a storyline that could compete with the last two starring Japan’s Shohei Ohtani with the Los Angeles Dodgers and, a year later, the DominicanJuan Soto with the New York Mets as winners.

By leaving the next winter market early, perhaps the most sought-after free agent will be Kyle Tucker, who was traded from the Houston Astros to the Chicago Cubs, but his contract ends at the end of the season. However, there are other names that could join after taking advantage of the clauses in their contracts, MLB.com mentions as options Alex Bregman, Cody Bellinger and Pete Alonso.

Pete Alonso can look for a better contract

Motivated by the $500 million of Vladimir Guerrero Jr, Pete Alonso could opt out of the two-year, $54 million deal he signed with the Mets, of which $24 million will be for 2026.

Without Guerrero Jr. in the competition, Alonso would be the best first baseman available and, after the nightmare of last winter’s market, in combination with the performance projected for 2025 alongside Juan Soto, Pete could seek revenge and enter free agency to get the contract he craves and that his agent Scott Boras did not get him
