There are a lot of people who don’t watch baseball and would have no idea who Paul Skenes is if it weren’t for Olivia Dunne. The former LSU student-athletes made waves in their own way while in college, but it was the baseball player’s relationship with gymnast and viral social media influencer Dunne that put him in a spotlight he wouldn’t have imagined.

But once Skenes got to the big leagues, he began carving out a path that has already put him on course to true greatness. At 23 years old, Skenes has already started two MLB All-Star Games through two seasons played. Skenes seems to be dead-set on breaking every pitching record, because with each start, he continues to etch his name in the sport’s history.

Paul Skenes is putting together never before seen seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pittsburgh Pirates shared a shocking stat about Skenes following his strong performance against the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday night. Through his first 53 career starts, Skenes has the lowest ERA of any pitcher in MLB history (live ball era) at 1.94.

Then came another stunning pair of stats, courtesy of Opta. Skenes is on the verge of having two unique seasons that no other pitcher in MLB history has been able to accomplish.

Skenes is currently the favorite to win the NL Cy Young award, which many believed he deserved in his rookie season last year. He will have no competition if he continues to pitch like he has this season.
