Paul Goldschmidt could be key for the Yankees during the Wild Card Round

The MLB postseason begins on September 30 with the Wild Card Round. The Yankees will host the Red Sox in New York to start the series that will take only one of them to the next phase of the league. Among the names that should stand out with the Bronx Bombers during these clashes is Paul Goldschmidt.

For those who don’t remember how this part is played in the Major Leagues, the Wild Card Series is played in a best-of-three format, and the first team to win two games will advance to the Division Series, scheduled to begin on Saturday, October 4. The postseason will culminate with the World Series, which will begin on October 24.

This is why the Yankees should use Goldschmidt against the Red Sox

The first baseman of Aaron Boone’s team has the opportunity to make his presence felt in these playoffs. New York has primarily used Goldschmidt against left-handed pitchers this season, one of the most relevant points, as the Boston Red Sox pitcher – the Yankees’ rival in the Wild Card Round – Garret Crochet, is left-handed.

In 145 games this season, Goldschmidt hit .274, hit 10 home runs, drove in 45 runs and had an OPS of .731. While these numbers are not the best of his career, a deeper look at the metrics behind his performance in 2025 reveals a player who has an idea of how to remain effective regardless of age.

Aaron Judge ended his regular season with the Yankees in style

In the final game of the regular season, Aaron Judge sealed his batting title with a 1-for-4 performance in New York’s 3-2 win over Baltimore. With a final average of .331, Judge not only excelled in batting average, but also led MLB in on-base percentage (.457) and slugging percentage (.688)

This achievement places him in an exclusive class alongside legends such as Mickey Mantle and Jimmie Foxx. Yankees manager Aaron Boone praised Judge’s dedication, stating that he is always looking to improve and adjust his game. “He takes pride in hitting for average. I think it means a lot to him,” Boone said.
