Patrick Mahomes waits eagerly as estranged brother hopes to hear name called in 2025 NFL Draft

As Patrick Mahomes prepares for another high-stakes NFL season, his half-brother Graham Walker is quietly preparing for a big moment of his own: the 2025 NFL Draft. While Mahomes is already a household name with two MVP awards and three Super Bowl rings, Walker’s journey has been far less glamorous, but just as driven.

Walker, 24, is Mahomes‘ paternal half-brother. Unlike the Chiefs‘ superstar quarterback, Walker didn’t grow up in the spotlight of Texas football. Instead, he was raised in Vermont by his mother and stepfather, far from the Friday night lights that shaped Mahomes. The two share a father, Pat Mahomes Sr., and while their upbringing was different, football still runs through both of their veins.

Walker’s position switch adds intrigue to his draft profile

After a strong run as a wide receiver at Brown University, where he tallied 125 receptions for 1,465 yards and 15 touchdowns, Walker made a bold move. He transferred to Rice University and voluntarily switched positions, becoming a tight end for the Owls. The transition wasn’t seamless, but he showed grit and adaptability, catching 24 passes for 252 yards in his final season.

At his Pro Day, Walker posted respectable numbers: a 4.82-second 40-yard dash, 18 bench press reps, a 34.5-inch vertical, and a 114-inch broad jump. While not elite, these metrics, paired with his versatility, give him a shot at earning a place in the league, either through the draft or as an undrafted free agent.

Mahomes stays supportive from afar

Though their relationship wasn’t always close, Walker has said that Mahomes has been quietly supportive. “Patrick has been watching the games, and he’s reached out and said the good things that I’ve been doing,” Walker shared in a recent interview. “When someone who’s accomplished so much can say you’re doing well, it really feels good.”

Both brothers are represented by the same agency, Equity Sports, but Graham is taking a quieter approach to his draft experience. He’s opted not to attend the event in Green Bay and will instead watch from his family’s home in Vermont.

As Mahomes sets his sights on another title, his brother waits for a chance to start his own NFL story, one that may begin with a simple phone call and a dream come true.
