Patrick Mahomes’ two-word reaction highlights madness of UConn’s upset win

Even during injury recovery, Patrick Mahomes couldn’t stay away from the chaos of March Madness.

The Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback reacted on social media following UConn Huskies men’s basketball’s dramatic comeback victory over Duke Blue Devils men’s basketball, posting a simple but viral response: “Wow, hahaha!”

Mahomes’ reaction came moments after a stunning finish in which Duke turnovers fueled UConn’s late rally and eventual 73-72 win, one of the most shocking results of the NCAA Tournament.

Duke controlled most of the contest, leading for more than 38 minutes and building a 19-point advantage. But the game shifted in the second half as UConn capitalized on repeated mistakes.

Turnovers flip game – and spark Mahomes’ reaction

The Blue Devils committed 13 turnovers compared to UConn’s five, and the Huskies converted those miscues into a decisive scoring edge, including a dominant 16-0 advantage in points off turnovers after halftime.

With seconds remaining and Duke holding a narrow lead, a late turnover opened the door for Braylon Mullins’ transition three-pointer at the buzzer, completing the comeback and triggering widespread reactions – including Mahomes’ now-viral post.

Mahomes, currently rehabbing from ACL and MCL injuries that ended his NFL season, has remained engaged with the NCAA Tournament despite his alma mater’s early exit.

March Madness draws attention beyond football

While his Texas Tech Red Raiders were eliminated earlier in the bracket, the three-time Super Bowl champion has continued following the action closely, highlighting the national reach of March Madness across sports.

UConn’s victory advanced the Huskies to the Final Four, where they will face Illinois Fighting Illini men’s basketball for a spot in the national championship game against the winner of Arizona vs. Michigan.

For Mahomes and millions watching, the ending served as another reminder of why the tournament earns its nickname – a game decided not by dominance, but by one costly turnover and one unforgettable shot.
