The Kansas City Chiefs evened their record at 3-3 after recovering from their recent loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars and defeating the Detroit Lions 30-17 at Arrowhead Stadium.
During the game, one of the most notable plays occurred in the second quarter and featured Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. And Patrick Mahomes didn’t hesitate to tease him.
The QB’s joke on Kelce
Playing their ninth season together in the NFL and in Kansas City, Patrick and Travis have won three Super Bowl titles, five AFC titles, and are looking to win a fourth Vince Lombardi this year.
During Week 6, the quarterback threw and connected with the 36-year-old tight end as he has done for years. Jack Campbell tried to prevent this, but the ball ultimately reached Kelce’s hands, and he carried it to Detroit’s one-yard line. However, in the process, he was tackled by Rock Ya-Sin, causing Travis to flip over and land headfirst on the turf. Fortunately, Kelce emerged unscathed from this play.
The Chiefs’ official Instagram account shared this sequence and accompanied the video with the description: “Had to slow this one down for y’all,” as the entire play happens in seconds.
Fans quickly took to the comments section, saying: “Best TE in the league. Best TE to ever touch a football field,” “Glad Kelce is okay! That was hard to watch!,” “Kelce built different.”
His teammate, Mahomes, took the situation with humor. The QB shared the video on his Instagram stories and asked the TE, “You good? @killatrav,” Pat wrote alongside three laughing emojis.
This joke shows the good bond and great friendship shared by both Chiefs stars. After almost a decade together, Mahomes and Kelce have not only united their families, but even their passions have come together in a single idea, as they opened a steakhouse together called “1587 Prime” in honor of their jersey numbers.
Meanwhile, on the field, Patrick, Travis, and the Chiefs will face off against the Las Vegas Raiders again at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday, October 19, and will try to improve their 3-3 record.
