Patrick Mahomes takes advantage of off-season to have quality time with wife Brittany: Trip and surprise appearance at very emotional destination

While many NFL stars spend the off-season focused on training or resting in private, Patrick Mahomes is choosing to spend his downtime differently; by heading to Oklahoma to watch the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the Women’s College World Series.

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, along with his wife, Brittany, at Game 2 on Thursday to support the softball team – just months after the birth of the couple’s third child, Golden Raye, born January 12.

Despite a demanding career and back-to-back Super Bowl titles, the 29-year-old has consistently made space for family activities but this latest off-season excursion, however, holds special emotional weight.

As a proud Texas Tech alumnus, he has long shown loyalty to his former school and hasn’t forgotten them despite his unprecedented success on the football field so after the Red Raiders secured their first-ever berth in the WCWS, he wasted no time in showing appreciation.

Ahead of Game 1, he surprised the team with custom Adidas letterman jackets and matching sneakers. Ahead of Game 2, he made the 350-mile-trip to Oklahoma City to cheer them on at Devon Park.

“His goal is to try and get here in person,” head coach Gerry Glasco said after Game 1. “Before this series is over.

“But he said to go ahead and give you this tonight, because he wants to be sure you get it.”

He further described the three-time Super Bowl MVP as the college team’s No. 1 fan as he reacted to the merchandise gesture that demonstrated his enthusiasm for the program’s historic achievement.

Mahomes cheers on Texas Tech in person

True to his word, Mahomes followed up the gift with his presence. He and Brittany were seen at Devon Park before Game 2 of the WCWS matchup against the Texas Longhorns, although the game faced delays due to rain.

The couple’s appearance was significant, not only for its emotional meaning but for what it represented: unwavering support in person, not just from afar. However, even this moment couldn’t be spared from online trolls.

Some fans on social media commented critically on a candid photo taken during the weather delay, interpreting their expressions as disinterested with no action occurring.

One user posted to X.com, formerly Twitter, sarcastically, “They look thrilled!” A second said, “Both look bored to tears.”

Still, many others praised the couple for making time to be there, especially given Mahomes’ packed professional obligations and family responsibilities as training for the Chiefs begins to ramp up.

As NFL fans eagerly anticipate his return in the 2025/26 NFL season, which they open against the Los Angeles Chargers, it’s clear Mahomes is using every off-season moment to stay grounded. Whether that’s through family, legacy, or heartfelt gestures that go far beyond the football field.
