Patrick Mahomes shows a small part of his playbook with intimidating intent

Patrick Mahomes has wasted no time setting a new tone for the 2025/26 NFL season during Organized Team Activities (OTAs), as the Kansas City Chiefs‘ quarterback showcased a behind-the-back pass during training-a glimpse of what may be coming.

The 29-year-old aims to avenge the team’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX at the first time of asking, and it might be personal after he was sacked six times on the night and tossed a pick-six too.

So, when upcoming campaign begins, fans at the Arrowhead Stadium should expect to see the three-time champion on the war path as he redefines every aspect of his game.

Alongside his growing arsenal of throws, Mahomes also appeared with a noticeably leaner and more defined physique in a bid to change his fortunes around following the humbling 40-22 loss on February 9.

Additionally, the quarterback, known for his creativity and improvisational brilliance, appears to be using the offseason not just to expand his physical abilities, but to sharpen his mental edge and widen his tactical wit.

Showing off a behind-the-back pass in practice is more than just a highlight from the three-time Super Bowl MVP-it reflects his ongoing evolution as a man determined to stay ahead of the league amid strong rivals like Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen.

Mahomes’ sensational body turnaround

Observers of the Chiefs‘ recent training session were quick to note Mahomes’ transformation beyond his shorter haircut as his altered frame drew attention and sparked widespread intrigue.

Gone is the so-called “dad bod” that had followed Mahomes for much of his career and in its place is a more chiseled figure that suggests a focused offseason of conditioning.

One fan commented, “You can already see it on the face and neck. Y’all really roasted him into getting fit. Now the league better watch out.”

A second said, “Looks jacked.”

And a third noted, “Dad bod morphed to rad bod.”

His new look signals a deeper intent to recalibrate after he accepted full responsibility for the team’s failure in New Orleans, a worrying sign for the rest of the league.

The loss also ended Kansas City’s hopes of completing an unprecedented three-peat and the Chiefs will be hurting as they bid to fight back in the upcoming season.

If Mahomes can get anywhere near his past form, as recently as 2021/22, then a fearsome player is about to be unleashed on football. In that season, he made 5250 yards for 41 touchdowns, allowing just 12 interceptions, from 648 attempts.

The Chiefs open their campaign in Brazil against the Los Angeles Chargers on September 4, just hours after the Eagles host the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL Kick Off Game.
