Patrick Mahomes receives a curious and surprising tribute before the Super Bowl

Patrick Mahomes has been honored by a local Kansas City bakery hailing the Chiefs quarterback by bringing out a donut resembling the 29-year-old, ahead of Super Bowl LIX on February 9.

Mahomes will go down as the single greatest player in the history of the organization when he retires after bringing the Arrowhead Stadium five Super Bowl appearances and six Conference Championships appearances since 2019.

The father-of-three, who only become a starter in 2018, has launched a dynasty currently dominating the NFL as they find themselves one victory away from becoming the first ever franchise to win three-in-a-row.

As a result, Mr. D’s Donut Shop in Shawnee, located 17.7 miles away from the Arrowhead, will run a special sweet treat honoring the football player by decorating his face on a donut with his iconic red headband.

“They all look at it and they’re like, ‘Oh my God! It looks just like Patrick Mahomes,'” Johnny Chen, owner, told The New York Post of the yeast-raised confectionary product. “We got the headband, made of red vanilla fondant, with KC written on it.

“At the bottom is maple icing for the face and at the top is chocolate icing and chocolate sprinkles and that’s Patrick Mahomes‘ head.

“We gathered our team and we were like, ‘Who’s our best player?’ Obviously at the time it was, and still is right now, Patrick Mahomes.”

Chen donates proceeds to charity

The collection also pays tribute to the Chiefs‘ Travis Kelce, the 35-year-old tight end of the side, who can be spotted with a white, red and yellow shirt with his 87 jersey number on the back of a yellow donut.

Selling for $2.50 each, Chen likes to run a competition with other bakeries from the surrounding NFL franchises to see who sells more, and the loser has to donate to charity and send over a batch too. He tried to reach out to Federal Donuts in Philadelphia, but did not hear back.

“They all have turned me down. We are the new villain in the donut world,” Chen continued, joking about the Chiefs‘ status as the bad guy in the NFL community due to their ongoing dominance.

The body has had around 150 pre-orders for Super Bowl LIX on February 9 and will donate some 15% of income from the sales to charity, which for the 2024/25 season will be the Steps of Faith Foundation, which provides prosthetics to amputees.

They previously sponsored the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation, dedicated to children in unrepresented communities.
