Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes showed his unwavering focus on the upcoming playoffs by declining a festive treat offered by Netflix during a post-game interview.
Mahomes and Travis Kelce were recognized by the streaming platform as the standout players of the Chiefs’ 29-10 win over the Steelers on Christmas Day.
Mahomes focused on the prize, not the cake
Following their victory in Pittsburgh, Mahomes and teammate Kelce were presented with football-shaped red velvet cakes by Netflix, who were livestreaming the game.
While Kelce enthusiastically embraced the dessert, saying “Oh, yeah! Look at that. A little red velvet,” before taking a big bite out of the baked good, Mahomes politely declined, stating, “I’m watching my weight for playoffs.”

Kelce, noticing Mahomes’ predicament, jumped to say they would take both cakes into the locker room to celebrate with their teammates.
“Coach Reid’s ready for it. I’ll take it to him,” Mahomes concluded.

Despite passing on the cake, Mahomes happily accepted a festive red and white coat from Netflix and joined Kelce in sporting the holiday attire.
The Chiefs, who are 15-1 in the current campaign, will conclude their regular season next week against the Denver Broncos, eager to carry their momentum into the playoffs.
After Wednesday’s Christmas Day win, Kansas City also secured the top seed in the AFC Conference heading into the NFL postseason.
It will be an exciting and eventful end of the year for the Chiefs as their superstar quarterback is about to become a father for the third time.
He recently revealed that his wife Brittany is going to deliver her third child “any day now”.
