Patrick Mahomes puts his emotions aside and talks about how he is approaching the upcoming game against the Eagles

The Kansas City Chiefs didn’t start the season on the best note. In reality, the team faced one of the best versions of Justin Herbert, and their offense struggled to find its rhythm. It’s also worth noting that they lost Xavier Worthy early in the game, which clearly altered the entire outlook.

But Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid have a chance to bounce back in Week 2 of the NFL, against the same team that dealt them perhaps their most painful defeat-a game that carries the label of revenge.

The Philadelphia Eagles Stand in Mahomes’ Path

The matchup between the Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles is poised to be one of the best of the entire season. A lot has changed for both franchises since Super Bowl LIX, but it was inevitable that it would be a major talking point in the week leading up to the game.

Patrick Mahomes was asked whether he reviewed the film from that Super Bowl, where he was thoroughly challenged, and if it affected him emotionally.

“I think it’s just more informational. I mean, the emotion kind of happens for about a week after the game, but I mean, at the end of the day, you’re going to have failures in this league. It’s about how you respond from those failures, and that’s something that’s important to anyone’s career. But for me, I got to continue to push to be even better, so that I don’t make those same mistakes whenever I get the opportunity to again,” he said at a press conference.

When asked about the loss of Xavier Worthy, who was injured against the Los Angeles Chargers, Mahomes said he sees it as an opportunity for other players to step up and get more reps to showcase their abilities.

“I think it’s more just getting guys into the right spots. I mean, obviously, you try to rep and give guys opportunities at every single receiver position, but there’s limited reps, and so when you have an injury, guys going in different spots, they haven’t got those reps in before. But I thought the guys did well as the game went on, of adjusting to that, stepping up and making plays,” he added.

Finally, he addressed the team’s status after losing their first game of the season, emphasizing that they have many leaders and are ready for any challenge the league throws at them.

“Yeah, I think guys are definitely locked in. I mean, I thought they were locked in last week. So, I mean, we have a lot of leaders on this team, guys that don’t like losing, and it’s about finding a way now of bringing that energy, bringing that right mindset, so that we can play our best football.”
