Randi Mahomes revealed how shocked she felt when she looking over at another driver on the road and saw them watching a movie on their phone, something that causes around 70,000 accidents a year in the USA.
The mother of the Kansas City Chiefs’ quarterback Patrick Mahomesrecalled how she glanced at the road user next to her and spotted them with one eye on the film they were watching, instead of focusing all their attention on the vehicles around them.
Leaving the 53-year-old shocked, she couldn’t seem to shake the moment out of her mind as she later took to X.com, formerly known as Twitter, to vent her frustration at such a flagrant ignorance of road safety.
“I look over,” Randi posted to Elon Musk‘s app on January 7. “And the driver next to me is holding up the phone watching a movie.. what?? Yikes???”
Using a cell phone whilst driving causes up to 70,000 accidents a year on roads in the United States, and is the leading cause of all traffic accidents across the nation. It is thought to be responsible for 3142 deaths per year in 2020.
The act is banned across all states in the USA with the exception of Montana, although there are varying degrees of restriction. For example, California allows hands-free cell phone use only, whilst Texas allows you to take calls with your hands.
The offense can see people land in prison, assuming the offender survives the accident in the first place. Sentences have ranged from one month to 10 years, the latter being for a homicide caused by an 18-year-old who had texted 15 times before killing a 77-year-old.
Randi Mahomes gives update on her dad
Mahomes may have found herself more upset then usual at the disregard for life due to her own personal troubles with her father.
After spending much of 2024 in and out of the hospital, Randy Martin was recently readmitted ahead of the Chiefs’ game with the Denver Broncos, which Patrick didn’t compete in.
“Prayer warriors, please pray for my daddy,” Randi asked social media before New Years’ Day. “He is in the hospital and is not well.”
