A week ago, the Kansas City Chiefs lost their quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and lateral collateral ligament (LCL) during their 13-16 loss to the LA Chargers on Sunday, December 14.
Now, during the 26-9 loss to the Tennessee Titans, Gardner Minshew started but suffered the same injury as Mahomes and had to leave the game. Chris Oladokun came in for him, and Patrick made a grand gesture toward him.

During the Week 16 game, Gardner completed just 3 of 8 passes for 15 yards before having to leave the field in the second quarter due to his injury.
Fans reacted with shock to this new blow, as Minshew suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, as initially reported by Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com, turning frustration into utter disbelief.
Late last week, the game against the Chargers also knocked Kansas City out of playoff contention for the first time in more than a decade, so the quarterback’s injury could not have come at a worse time for a team that, already eliminated, was looking for stability.
Chris Oladokun entered the game in place of Minshew. The seventh-round pick in the 2022 draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers arrived in Kansas City in 2023. He finished the game against the Titans with 11 of 16 passes for 111 yards, with no touchdowns. However, what caught the attention was a great detail revealed by Chris himself, with Mahomes as the protagonist.
After the game, Oladokun revealed that even though Patrick is away from the team recovering from surgery, he reached out to him: “I opened my phone, he was the first text I saw,” he said, praising Mahomes: “That’s the type of guy he is.”
Meanwhile, Oladokun is likely to continue as the starting quarterback for the Chiefs’ remaining two games this season and showcase his talent.
This Friday, December 26, they will host the Denver Broncos at Arrowhead Stadium and close out the season at the Las Vegas Raiders‘ Allegiant Stadium on Sunday, January 4.
