Patrick Mahomes loses respect in the Eagles’ locker room: A.J. Brown savages Chiefs star after Super Bowl LIX

The Kansas City Chiefs entered Super Bowl LIX as 1.5-point favorites — slim, but favorites nonetheless — over a Philadelphia Eagles team they had defeated two years prior in Super Bowl LVII. But what transpired in New Orleans on Sunday night defied even the wildest expectations.

Instead of lifting the Vince Lombardi Trophy for a third consecutive season, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs were helpless to slow down the rampant Eagles. Philadelphia jumped out to a huge lead and ended up winning, 40-22, to dash Kansas City’s dreams of becoming the first team in NFL history to win three successive Super Bowl titles. And one of Philly‘s best players is making his feelings known about Mahomes after the star quarterback struggled at the Caesars Superdome.

Brown: We made Mahomes look average

A.J. Brown hauled in a touchdown pass from Super Bowl MVPJalen Hurts on Sunday night, part of a first-half barrage that saw the Chiefs fall behind by four scores after two quarters. And as the Eagles celebrated on the field after the clock hit triple zeroes in the fourth quarter, Brown had a few words to say about how his teammates were able to slow down Mahomes.

“That’s a good team. That’s a good quarterback, probably the best quarterback in the game, and we just made him look average,” Brown bragged. “We know he not average.”

The Chiefs’ late “rally” made Mahomes’ final stats look better — the three-time Super Bowl MVP finished 21-of-32 for 257 yards and threw for three touchdowns against two interceptions. But Mahomes suffered six sacks as the Chiefs’ offensive line failed to protect him effectively against an Eagles front that did not have to blitz all night. Make no mistake: this was among the worst games of Mahomes’ decorated career, and it will influence debates about his greatness for some time to come, fairly or unfairly.

Still, Brown and the Eagles have earned the right to talk trash. After they came up just short in Super Bowl LVII, the Eagles left no doubt as to which NFL team was the best in 2024; Philly built a 24-0 lead by halftime and eventually expanded it to 34-0 — the largest lead in a Super Bowl for more than a decade.

While Mahomes and the Chiefs lick their wounds amid speculation that Travis Kelce is set to retire, the Eagles will celebrate all offseason as the rest of the NFL plots a way to snatch their crown come September.
