Patrick Mahomes: Is the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback a future Hall of Famer?

As the Kansas City Chiefs ramp up preparations for the 2025-26 season, Patrick Mahomes continues to be the centerpiece of their franchise.

His leadership both on and off the field has reinforced what fans and analysts have long suspected: Mahomes is shaping up to be a Pro Football Hall of Famer.

Mahomes‘ resume is particularly impressive considering his relatively short time in the league. He entered the NFL in 2017 as a backup to Alex Smith but quickly rose to prominence.

Through 112 games, he boasts a completion percentage of 66.6 percent, over 32,000 passing yards, 245 touchdowns, and 74 interceptions.

He has also shown mobility, rushing for more than 2,200 yards and 14 touchdowns while averaging 5.2 yards per carry. Remarkably, all of this comes before his 30th birthday.

A Hall of Fame career before 30

Jeff Kerr, a writer for CBS Sports, shared his opinion on Mahomes’ hall of fame potential:

“Patrick Mahomes could retire now and be inducted on the first ballot when he’s eligible for the Hall of Fame. He is just one of five quarterbacks to win three Super Bowls (Brady, Montana, Terry Bradshaw, Troy Aikman) and one of three quarterbacks to win three Super Bowl MVPs (Brady, Montana).”

He added, “Mahomes also has the second-most playoff wins by a quarterback in NFL history (17), behind only Brady (35).”

Similarly, Bryan DeArdo evaluated every NFL team’s top Hall of Fame candidate. For the Chiefs, Mahomes was the obvious choice.

But DeArdo did more than list Mahomes-he labeled him a certainty for Canton.

“There’s no official criteria when determining who is enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame,” DeArdo wrote.

“That being said, based on who has and who hasn’t been enshrined over the past 50 years, it’s safe to say that there are certain things the voters look at when determining who should get a bronze bust and a gold jacket.”

According to DeArdo, Mahomes not only meets the expectations, but he’s already making his case undeniable.

“Mahomes is already knocking on Canton’s doors,” he said. “Mahomes is only adding to his Hall of Fame bona fides at this point.”

Despite the suggestion that Mahomes could retire today and still be a first-ballot Hall of Famer, the quarterback appears poised to continue leading the Chiefs for years to come.

At 29, he is entering his ninth NFL season and remains in peak physical condition, with the potential to add many more milestones to his career.
